Notes |
- Enoch Hergott, owner of the City Hotel in Waterloo, died of a heart attack on Saturday morning after just 2 days of being unwell, aged 48 years. He was born near Waterloo in 1853 and married Maria Meyer in 1876. For several years, he ran the brewery in Stratford, and since 1896, he has been the innkeeper of the City Hotel. As a result of his honest and friendly nature, he was generally beloved and his unexpected death has caused universal sadness. Besides his widow, he is also survived by one son and two daughters. The burial on Tuesday was attended by C.M.B.A. members from Waterloo, Berlin, Stratford, St. Clements, St. Agatha and New Germany, as well as Canadian Foresters. Very Rev. T. Spetz celebrated a solemn requiem mass in the Catholic church, which could scarcely hold one half of the mourners; he was assisted by Very Rev. G. Brohmann as deacon and Very Rev. J. Gnam as subordinate deacon. Father Brohmann, in addition, preached the funeral sermon.
