Notes |
- Alfred G. Kaufman
Funeral service for Alfred G. Kaufman, 75, 35 Hohner Ave., who died of a heart seizure on a downtown street yesterday, will be conducted Monday at the Schreiter Sandrock Funeral Home at 2 p.m. by Rev. Dr. John Schmieder. Interment will be in Bridgeport Cemetery.
Mr. Kaufman was one of the five originals to begin house-to-house mail service in Kitchener. He began on Aug, 27, 1907, as a letter carrier in what was then Berlin. He was on a route until 1921 when he became postal supervisor of carriers.
On April 16, 1946, he was retired after 39 years of duty.
He was born at Baden, a son of the late Alfred Kaufman and Catherine Seegmiller. He came to Kitchener and in 1912 he married Amelia Koerber, who survives.
He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, St. Matthew's Lutheran Church and a charter member of the church brotherhood.
Other survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Walter (Margaret) Eby of Kitchener and Mrs. Robert (Norma) Chadder of Waterloo; two sisters, Miss Mildred Kaufman of Lockort, N.Y. and Mrs. Anthony Pautler of Preston, and four grandchildren.
A son, W.O. William Kaufman, died in 1942 while with the RCAF overseas. Odd Fellows will pay respects tonight when they meet at 7 o'clock.
