Passed away peacefully, at A.R. Goudie Eventide Home in Kitchener, on November 9, 2011, in her 94th year. Beloved wife of 57 years of the late James Giffen Smith. Frances is survived by her children: Barbara and Andrew Normand of Glasgow, Scotland; Gordon Smith and Anna Briggs of Liverpool, England; James Smith and Ivy Lee of North Vancouver; Robert and Helen Smith of Calgary; David and Meryl Smith of Delta, B.C.; Donald and Anna Smith of Hanover; Margaret and François Paré of Kitchener; Ian Smith and Elizabeth Podnieks of Toronto and by her many grandchildren. Sister of the late Harvey Pettit and the late Helen Heming. Frances was born near Freeman, now part of Burlington. She studied at MacDonald Institute, Guelph. She and James lived in Guelph, Sarnia, Beeton and Tottenham, before settling in Galt, where they raised their children on Aberdeen Road. Frances was very involved in Presbyterian women's groups and later worked as the secretary of Knox's Galt Presbyterian Church. Friends will be received at T. Little Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 223 Main Street, Cambridge on Tuesday, November 15th, 2 - 4 and 6 - 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Knox Galt Presbyterian Church, 2 Grand Avenue South, Cambridge on Wednesday, November 16th at 11 a.m. Reception to follow. Interment at Mount View Cemetery, Cambridge.
