In 1874, this corner was the original location of the Molson's Bank. The stately house was later incorporated into the R.N. Rowe funeral home and furniture business when Mr. Rowe became its owner in 1887. Mr. Rowe's grandson, R. C. Dinney took over the business in the 1940s and where his son operated Exeter Home Furniture until 2014.

After finding that Rowe was buried in Exeter, I e-mailed the Haskett Funeral Home there to get his death date. The reply was that the funeral home was started by the Rowes, but Hasketts don't have the early records. The person who replied suggested that I call Ada Dinney, a descendant of Samuel Rowe's brother. I called Ada on July 28, 2014, and she told me that Samuel and his brother Robert Rowe did establish a funeral home in Exeter in 1887. Samuel left about a year later to work in or own a grocery store in Farquar, Ontario [also in Huron County]. Ada thought that he went to Galt or Guelph after that.
