    • THRILLING EXPERIENCES OF TROOPER ROOS

Mr. J. H. Roos recently received a letter from his son Trooper Ed. N. Roos of the Strathcona Horse dated Oct. 16th, in which he gave some interesting particulars of a recent engagement in which he took part. He said that their troops had spent three days on horse back, during which they took a farm and three villages. They went through shell holes, and over all kinds of obstructions. In going over a large sunken roadway six feet deep only two horses fell, the horses being exceptionally speedy and even better than the Seagram racers. They were warmly welcomed by the French villagers everywhere. The shell holes were large enough to accomodate the men with their horses. Their troop was continually under machine gun fire and suffered 70 casualties during the three days. 24 of the troop were killed.

Trooper Roos went over with the first contingent and has been at the front for over four years.
