Another of the town's oldest residents has been called to the great beyond in the person of Susannah Allemang relict of the late William Steubing, Sr., whose death occurred at her home on Erb Street at five o'clock Monday afternoon.
For half a century the deceased has been a resident of Waterloo during which time she has made a wide acquaintance and enjoyed the respect of all associates and friends.
Mrs. Steubing has been in ill health for several years but had been confined to her bed for only six days, the cause of death which came as a relief from much suffering was old age and dropsy.
Deceased was born October 14, 1831 in Kirrberg, France. When three years of age she came with her parents to Woolwich. In 1849 she was married to Wm. Steubing who predeceased her six years ago. After a fourteen years' residence in Erbsville the family moved to Waterloo where they have resided ever since. Six children are left to mourn her loss, one son having died four years ago. The children are, Mrs. Daniel Fries, Berlin; Hy. Steubing, Berlin; Conrad Steubing, Hamilton; Mrs. H Lorenz, Waterloo; Mrs. Fred Koerber, Waterloo and Edward Steubing, Berlin. There are also eighteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran church and a member of the Ladies' Aid Society.
