- DEATH OF MR. WILLIAM YOUNG
Mr. Willlam Young, one of the oldest citizens of Waterloo, died at his residence, King street, at 11:30 o'clock on Monday morning at the age of 81 years, 4 months and 3 days. He had been ill and confined to the house for about three weeks, kidney trouble being the direct cause of his death.
The late Wiliam Young was born at Omagh, Tyrone Co., Ireland, in 1820, and came to this country with his parents in 1846, landing at Quebec. He came on to Flamboro, near Hamilton, where he spent several years. He then went to Preston where he learned brickmaking. In 1855 he came to Waterloo and commenced the manufacture of brick on Erb street, the present site of Mr. Wm. Hogg's wood yards. He continued this business for ten years and then went into the egg business which he carried on very sucessfully for ten years. In 1877 he sold out to the late Wm. Moore and has lived a retired life for the past twenty-four years. Mr. Young was married at Berlin to Miss Mary Bell, of Wawanosh, Huron Co., Ont., in 1865. To them were born ten children, five girls and five boys, nine of whom survive, Annie having died three years ago. They are: William of Battle Creek, Mich.; Elizabeth at home; Edward, of Ann Arbor, Mich.; Julia, wife of W. A. McBride, Glenallen; Carrie, at home; Mamie, wife of J.B.Crawford, Ottawa; James, Roland and Fred at home. Three sisters of the deceased are still living, viz: Mrs. McCusker, Hamilton; Mrs. Elliott, Toronto and Mrs. Garrick, Mars City, Mich.
Deceased was a resident of Waterloo for 46 years. He was a member of the Presbyterian church. He was a shrewd business man and by frugality and industry accumulated a competence many years ago. He was a large stock-holder and a director for 27 years of the Waterloo Woolen Mills and a large stockholder in the Dominion Life.
The funeral took place from the residence, King St., at 2:30 pm. Wednesday to Mount Hope cemetery for interment. The sorrowing widow and family have the sympathy of their many friends in their sad bereavement.
