  MRS. A. E. MERTINS TAKEN BY DEATH Mrs. Eleonora Brandt Mertens, 71, wife of Adolph E. Mertins and mother of County Commissioner Edward C. Mertins died at the residence 438 Watkins Street yesterday afternoon at 6 after an illness of 8 weeks. Funeral services will be held at the residence this afternoon at 4 o'clock with the Rev. W. A. Reiser officiating and interment will follow in the Westover Memorial Park Mrs Mertins was a native of Germany but had lived in this country for 68 years she had resided in Augusta for 47 years and was a devout member of the Evangelical Church of the Resurrection. Pallbearers will be E. L. Stelling Frank Stelling, Albert Hemstreet, Albert Frey, F. G. Mertins and C. Y. Kreps. In addition to her husband and son Mrs. Mertins is survived by two other sons Frank R Mertins and Harry B Mertins of Augusta three daughters Mrs Louise Mertins, Miss Eleanor Mertins of Augusta and Mrs. M. O. Glover jr., of North Augusta; five grandchildren; Two brothers William Brandt of Cheyenne Wyo. and Fred Brandt of Kitchener, Ontario. The Augusta Chronicle 14 Jan 1939 pg 8A
