Notes |
- Death of Val. Yager
A familiar figure in our midst passed away on Monday in the person of Mr. Valentine Yager of near Shakespeare. He had been in failing health for some years, dropsy causing his death. The deceased was a son of the late Mr. Valentine Yager of North Easthope and was in his 75th year. The loss is not only felt by the family but also by the church at large. He has for years manifested a live and keen interest in the affairs of the Kingdom. His counsel was valuable and readiness to help support the different church enterprises was always an inspiration. Gladly would we have seen him remain with us still, but when the call came he quietly and resignedly laid the armor down and answered the summons of the great householder. His wife, who was a daughter of the late Jacob Ratz of New Hamburg, and one son predeceased him about twenty years ago. He leaves to mourn his loss two sons and five daughters, namely: Emmanuel, of Prince Ruppert; Emma, (Mrs. Robertson), of Victoria, B. C.; Adeline (Mrs. Smith), of Sparta, and Elizabeth, Lydia, Alvina and Jack at home. He is also survived by one brother and two sisters, Mrs. John Wing and Mrs. Senator Ratz of New Hamburg, and Rev. W. J. Yager of Dashwood. The funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon from his late residence to Lingelbach's cemetery.
