- Mary Shirk, "was born February 4th, 1837. She was married to Rev. Jacob B. Gingerich. They resided on part of the old "Shirk Homestead" opposite the village of Doon where she died May 3rd, 1866. She was blessed with one son named David who died in infancy."

December 8, 1836 - A daughter of Mr. Scherk of Waterloo died at 3 1/2 years of age. Her little sister and little brother died 4 days before her, all from scarlet fever.
