      Charles H. Kaplin, 79. of 92 Strange St., proprietor of Kaplin's grocery store on Strange street for the past 46 years. died today at his home after a lengthy illness.

      Born April 26, 1879, in Rochester, NY, he came to Kitchener 49 years ago. Prior to the grocery store business he operated the Royal Tailoring Service on King street.

      Mr. Kaplin managed the Berlin junior hockey team from 1914 to 1917 and was actively interested in sports.

      He was secretary-treasurer of Victoria Kitchener Buildings. Ltd., and a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. His wife, the former Ann White, survives.

      Other survivors are three sons, Jerome J. and Clayton L., both of Kitchener and Randolph H. of Rochester, N.Y; a daughter, Lorraine R. Kaplin of Kitchener and five grandchildren.

      He was predeceased by two brothers and by a daughter, Mary, in infancy.

      The body is at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home where the funeral will be conducted Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. Entombment will be in Woodland Mausoleum. Rev. J. M. Zimmerman, pastor of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, will officiate.
