- SCHMIEDER, Rev. Henry H.
Of Route 1, Renfrew. Ont., pastor of Grace Lutheran Church, Eganville Ont. and St. James Lutheran Church, Renfrew, died after a brief illness, at Ottawa General Hospital on Tuesday, December 21, 1976. Born on February 15, 1919 in Kitchener, he was the son of the late Dr. John Schmieder and his wife Margaret (nee Poser). He graduated from Waterloo College, in 1941 and Waterloo Lutheran Seminary, in 1944. Was called to St. James Lutheran Church, New Dundee and St. James Lutheran Church, Mannheim. Since 1949 he has been pastor of Grace Lutheran Church, Eganville and in 1975 was called also to serve, St. James Lutheran Church, Renfrew. Pastor Schmieder was a member of the board of governors of the former Waterloo Lutheran University and Waterloo Lutheran Seminary for an extensive period of time, including the period of provincialization of the University, when it became Wilfrid Laurier University. He also served as protestant chaplin, CFB Foymount, for many years. During the development of Camp Lutherlyn at Golden Lake, Ont., Pastor Schmieder provided much of the impetus in leadership. He is survived by his wife, Jean (nee Kramp), whom he married in Kitchener, in 1945; by a son, John Schmieder of Renfrew; two daughters, Margaret Schmieder and Mary Schmieder of Toronto and by a sister, Ruthmarie (Mrs. Carl J. Weber) of Kitchener. The body will lie in state at Grace Lutheran Church, Eganville where funeral service will be held on Friday, December 24.
