  • Notes
    • AMOS, JANE

In Puslinch, on Sunday, December 15, 1895, at the age of 76 years. Relict of Alexander Amos. Her husband predeceased her by four years, at the age of 72. She had been ailing for about three years with partial paralysis. She was able to move about until about three weeks ago, when her strength began to fail and she gradually sank until she was taken away. She was born near Hawick, Scotland and came with her husband to Canada about 1850. They settled on the Brock Road, near Aberfoyle and shortly afterward, purchased what is known as the Bailey farm lot 14 on the 8th concession, now the old homestead and where they both resided up to their deaths. Mrs. Amos was noted for her hospitality, generosity and kindness of heart. No one left her door empty handed. She was a staunch Presbyterian and was a regular attendant of Rev. Torrance's church, while it was in existence. The surviving members of the family are Thomas, on the homestead; William, a mason, on the Brock Road; Robert in the western States; Mrs. William Cockburn of Puslinch; Mrs. William Dickieson of Eramosa; and Mrs. Robert Doughty of Guelph.
