Notes |
- Held in a Vice until a clerk came to his assistance.
Fremont, Neb. June 1. John Knechtel is lying at his home in a very serious condition as a result of an accident which happened at his store this forenoon. Mr. Knechtel had business on the second floor and took the elevator. It is a freight elevator, worked by hand. He became interested in something below him and was leaning forward when his head struck the ceiling. He plunged forward, but managed to clutch one of the ropes, but before he could recover himself he was held as in a vice between the elevator and the second floor. A clerk heard his employer's groans and liberated him. He was taken home where he was in an unconscious condition for hours. This afternoon he recovered and by means of a pencil and paper told how it happened. His condition is regarded as being serious.
