Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital in his 83rd year.
Beloved husband of Helen Smiley (nee: Craig) for 43 years.
Loving father of John Craig and Donna Diebel of Kitchener.
Adored grandpa of Stephanie, Jessica, Kevin, Kathryn, Erin and great-grandpa of Liam.
Dear brother of Donald Smiley (Geraldine), brother-in-law of Joanne Smiley of Kitchener, Janet and Darryl Hilliard of Kincardine.
Ken will be greatly missed by his furry friend "Buddy."
Predeceased by parents Pearl and Esther Smiley and brother Garry Smiley.
Ken was a 35 year veteran of the Kitchener Fire Department. Previous to the Fire Department, Ken was in the Merchant Navy and a sailor on the Great Lakes. Ken was affiliated with the St. John's Cadets, Kitchener Legion Pipe Band, Kitchener Firefighter's Band and the Dutch Boy Cadets. Ken was a member of Olivet United Church.
Ken's family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, January 16, 2011 from 2-2:45pm at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener, 519-749-8467. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home immediately following visitation at 3pm, Rev. Randy Banks officiating. Reception to follow the memorial service.
Donations can be made in memory of Ken to Olivet United Church, KW Humane Society or the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre (cards are available at the funeral home).
