- Auto Lights Blind Driver Erwin Eisert Released After Questioning; Inquest Is Ordered

HESPELER, Oct. 30.-Annie Elizabeth Bruce, 73-year-old wife James Bruce of Hespeler, was instantly killed early Saturday evening when she was struck by a car driven by Erwin Eisert of Hespeler. The accident occurred at the intersection of Cedar and Queen streets, opposite the Dominion Woollens and Worsteds.
According to police, Mrs. Bruce was crossing Queen street at the time of the accident, presumably to visit her daughter. Mrs. George Oliver, who lives nearby. Eisert in a statement made to police said that the lights of an approaching car obscured his vision so that he did not see the woman few seconds before his car struck her. Mrs. Bruce was killed outright by the force of the impact and her body was thrown about 12 feet. Dr. W. G. Hutchison. deputy coroner, was called to the scene and pronounced the woman dead. Post mortem Andings revealed she had suffered two broken legs, broken arm, fractured ribs, neck and skull.

Police Chief Wilson of Hespeler Investigated the accident and Eisert was released after questioning. The body was removed to the morgue where it later viewed by Chief Coroner Ward Woolner of Ayr, who ordered an inquest for Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Hespeler town hall.
The late Mrs. Bruce was born in Ramsgate, Kent, England, and came to this country with her family 26 years ago, and since that time has some been a resident of Hespeler. She married James Bruce on Feb.11th. 1886 The deceased was highly respected by a wide circle of friends. She was active in the local branches of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Canadian Legion and the Daughters of England.

Surviving are her husband,. James Bruce of Hespeler, Ave daughters, Mrs. Haggis of Ramsgate, Kent, England, Mrs. Bell and Mrs. Eagle of Preston.
Mrs. George Oliver and Miss Alice Bruce of Hespeler, and two sons, James of London, England, and John of Prince Albert, Sask. One son, William, was killed in action overseas. The funeral will be held on Wednesday afternoon at three o'clock from the Stager and Co., funeral chapel. Interment wil be made in the Hespeler cemetery.
