- A POPULAR STORE. Zettel & Montag's Cigar Store and Bowling Alley.
Possibly few retail businesses have more varied or complex elements entering into their successful piloting than a tobacco store. First, there is the personal popularity of the proprietor, which is a mighty factor. Lacking that, the cigar store is doomed to failure or to a struggling existence almost as bad. The man who dispenses the "weed" must be a likable fellow, yet firm and businesslike. The possession of these qualities are readily seen in the personnel of the men who are daily making good at No. 20 King St. West. The reference is to Messrs. Zettel & Montag. Mr. A. J. Zettel formerly conducted a hotel at Walkerton and is a gentleman of wide and varied experience in dealing with men. Mr. M. Montag also hails from Bruce County, but was well and favorably known in Berlin before taking hold of the present business. Both are popular and hence it was but to be expected that when they took over, some eighteen months ago, the large wholesale and retail business which Schlieman had established four or five years ago, that it would whirl right along in the path of progress. And such ithas done. The front store, which is a commodious one, is always stocked full of the best lines of cigars and tobaccos the market affords. The smoker can always get his favorite brand. An immense variety of pipes and other smokers' accessories are always on hand. This is evident when it is remarked that you can get a pipe here from 10c. to $10.00 in price. To the rear is a pool room and one of the finest bowling alleys' in this part of the country. The latter consists of five alleys of the regulation length. Three these were put in last year so that they are all practically new. This is a very popular recreation resort. Those who visit Zettel & Montag's hour's whether for a good cigar or will an be healthful recreation, not disappointed.
