- WAGNER, John (Johann) (Hans) - On Saturday the twelfth of December. 1998, at the Palliative Care Unit of St. Mary's General Hospital, Kitchener. after a long struggle with cancer, surrounded by his family, Christina (nee Kuhn), his wife of 48 years; daughter. Christi and her husband Bob Raines: grandson, Kyle Raines, all of Kitchener; grandaughter, Sarah and her husband Paul Kiggins of Guelph also present were Christina's sister. Margaret and her husband John Messmer of Kitchener; niece, Eva, her husband Randy Adams and their daughters, Tracy and Kim of Mannheim. Mourning in California are John's sister, Teresia, her husband Mathias Hoehn; nephew, Milivoi Martinov, his wife Elizabeth along with children Alexandra, Gabriela and Trevor, Matt's son, Nick Hoehn, wife Angela and Matt's grandsons, Hans Hoehn and Robert Williams and mourning in St. Louis, M.O., John's cousin, Mathias Wagner and his wife Teresia, they were as close as brothers.
John was born on the seventh day of November. 1919 in Sackelhausen (Sacalaz), Romania. The son of Johann and Susanna Wagner (nee Hummel) along with his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter and a son, in infancy.
He immigrated to Canada in 1951 after spending a number of years in Austria. He was a Master Carpenter and worked with his cousins at Hummel Construction, J.R. Murray Sales an Birchcliffe Trim before his retirement. For many years he was "Semi Retired" using his skills for family and friends. He was a member of the Schwaben Club, St. Mary's RC Church German Congregation, the Einigkeit Senior Citizens Club and the K-W Ostomy Association. After his first bought with cancer in 1992, John volunteered with the local Ostomy Group until his illness made it impossible to continue.
John's family will receive friends at the Schreiter-Sandrock Funeral Home and Chapel, 51 Benton at Church Street, Kitchener, (742-4481) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998. Prayers will be offered at 4 p.m.. on Tuesday at the funeral home. A funeral mass at St. Mary's RC Church at 10 a.m., will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, Father Gregory Roetker SAC officiating. Interment Woodland Cemetery, Kitchener, immediately following the service.
Family and friends are invited to return to the Heritage Room at the funeral home for lunch after the burial.
