- TSCHIRHART, Robert Joseph (Rip) - Passed away, peacefully, after a valiant struggle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family, at Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital, on Wednesday, May 9, 2001, in his 81st year.
Beloved husband of Eva (nee Reinhardt) for 49 years. Loving father of Bev and her husband Jim Birch of Kitchener, Jan and her husband John Kuntz of Waterloo, Gail Coles and Tom Long of Mississauga and Kim and her husband Paul Perna of Kitchener; dear papa of Kelly and Greg Baker of Inverhaugh, Kerry and Gary Swartzentruber of Kitchener, Ryan and Jocelyn Coles and Natalie and Brittany Perna; great-grandpapa of Matthew and Katie Swartzentruber, Nichole, Jordan and Stephen Baker and Cyrus Coles. Survived by his brothers, Bill Tschirhart and his wife Bert of Kitchener and Ed Tschirhart and his wife Elfrieda of Barrie and his sister, Olivia Knorr of Waterloo. Lovingly remembered by Wayne Coles, Lance Bryant and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his first wife, Anne Paleczny (1951); his parents, Leo and Frances (Brohman) Tschirhart; brothers, Irvin and George and sister, Eleanor Grau.
Robert was an usher and a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Teresa's RC Church. He had been employed with the Dominion Button Manufacturing Company as a foreman, with Swenco Manufacturing as a foreman, with Canada Post and with the Waterloo Regional Catholic School Board. Bob was an avid fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and loved gardening winning the 1998 Kitchener In Bloom Award of Merit for the best garden in his neighbourhood. He enjoyed wood working and always looked forward to his family gatherings.
Relatives and friends may call at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. W., Kitchener, today (Thursday) and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Parish prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Friday at 3:45 p.m. Prayers will be offered from the funeral home on Saturday at 9:15 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Teresa RC Church at 10 a.m. Interment in Woodland Cemetery. Reception will follow in the Ratz-Bechtel Family Centre.
As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre, St. Mary's Hospital Foundation or to Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital.
