- GIRL VICTIM OF TRUCK
Eileen Schneider, 3½ Year Old Child, Crushed Under Wheels of Truck.-Driver Out on Bail.
Another life fell a victim to the auto truck on Thursday afternoon when little Eileen Schneider, daughter of Mr and Mrs. Geo. Schneider. Kitchener, aged 3 1/2 years, was run over by a truck belonging to the Kitchener Public Utilities Commission and driven by Arthur Beilstein. an employee of the commission. The child was going towards the back of the truck which was standing in the lane near her home and as she reached it the truck backed up, the rear wheel passing over the child's chest and abdomen. Mrs. Schneider, the mother. noticed the plight of the little child but before she could reach it the truck had backed up inflicting the injuries. On the truck with Beilstein was her grandfather, also an employee of the commission, both of whom were unaware of the presence of the child, who died from the injuries received at St. Mary's Hospital an hour and a half after wards. She suffered six fractured ribs and a severe laceration of the liver and right kidney.
Beilstein was placed under arrest in the evening on a charge of man slaughter and was later released on ball of $2,000 being furnished, being remanded for a week.
The funeral of the child took place on Saturday to St. Mary's Church thence to Woodland cemetery.
