    • Stanley Robert Haigh, formerly of Tillsonburg, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at Caressant Care Nursing Home in Woodstock Ontario at the age of 91 years. Stan was predeceased by his wife Phyllis in 2009, and is lovingly remembered by his children Rob, of Comox, BC, Elizabeth of Calgary and John (Karly) of Calgary and by his grandchildren Katie, Laura, Gillian, Scott and Liam as well as by his sister Lorna Kay (Bob) of Mississauga, Ontario and nieces Lynn (Pat), Susan (George) and Janet (Bob) and their families. Also remembered by Phyllis's children, Mary Miller of Ayr, Ontario and Dennis Schmidt (Puky) of Eagle Bay, BC and their children Nicole, Glenda, Amy, Jordan, Bamboo and Junior.

      Stan was born in Calgary, Alberta on June 10, 1928, and graduated from Central High School. During his teenage years he was a delivery boy for The Calgary Herald newspaper in his neighborhood of Elbow Park. He was a skilled wood turner and an enthusiastic outdoorsman, enjoying skiing and hiking in the Rocky Mountains of Banff National Park.

      Stan began his career in sales with the T. Eaton Company in Calgary, and held many sales positions in furniture, flooring and draperies also in Winnipeg, and Edmonton. Stan was married to Anne Russell from 1956-65. They settled in Calgary, and Stan began his lifelong role as a father. He was an avid landscape designer and gardener and his carpentry and woodworking skills were evident around the family home. In addition, Stan was a Charter member of the Stampede City Gyro Club (circa 1962).

      Stan relocated to Kitchener, Ontario when he married Phyllis Schmidt in 1975. He and Phyllis built their dream home at Lake Eugenia, Ontario, much of it by their own hands and shared a passion for travel, gardening and landscaping. Stan was instrumental in establishing a "Meals on Wheels" program in the Flesherton, Ontario area. Stan and Phyllis eventually relocated to Hickory Hills Retirement Community in Tillsonburg, where Stan served on the board of directors and they both enjoyed many activities including shuffleboard and cribbage. Stan was a parishioner of St. Paul's United Church, Tillsonburg.

      A service celebrating Stan's life will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 11 am at St Paul's United Church in Tillsonburg Ontario (88 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg)
