      A Waterloo man who worked as compositor with Bean Printing and Publishing Company Ltd... Waterloo, for 42 years, Charles W. (Bill) Carthy, 54, of 313 King St. North, died today at his resi dence after a brief illness.

      Born June 8, 1905, at Ashton-u-Lyne, Lancashire, England, the son of the late Joseph Carthy and Harriett Hulme, he came to the Twin Cities from England in 1914.

      He was a member of All Saints Anglican Church, Waterloo, the IOOF Germania Lodge, Waterloo and the Samaritan Encampment.

      Surviving are three brothers, George H. of Waterloo and Joseph D. and Cyril of Kitchener, and four sisters, Mrs. William (Eunice) Martin of Erbsville Mrs. Cyril (Beatrice). Schell and Mrs. Mervin (Phyllis) Karn of Kitchener and Miss Eileen Carthy of Waterloo.

      Three brothers predeceased him. Percy and Eric were killed in the First World War and Harold died in 1933.

      The body is at the Edward R Good Funeral Home where the funeral will be conducted Satur day at 2 p.m. with Rev. Allan Barker, rector of All Saints' An glican Church, officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.

      An IOOF Lodge service will b held at the funeral home tonight at 9:15 o'clock.
