- Joseph Carthy, 90, of 313 King St. North, Waterloo, died Monday in London, Ont., after a lengthy illness.
He was born Dec. 11, 1869 in Manchester, England, a son of the late James and Catherine (Darlington) Carthy. He married Harriet Hulme in England in 1891. She died in 1947.
Mr. Carthy came to the Twin Cities in 1913 and had lived here ever since. He served in the Canadian Army during the First World War. He was a member of Kitchener branch of the Canadian Legion, and attended Church of the Holy Saviour, Waterloo.
Surviving are four sons, George H. and C. William of Waterloo, Joseph D. and Cyril of Kitchener, four daughters Mrs. William (Eunice) Martin of Erbsville, Miss Eileen Carthy of Waterloo, Mrs. Cyril (Beatrice) Schell and Mrs. Mervin (Phyllis) Karn of Kitchener, 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Two sons, Percy and Eric were killed in action in World War 1, and a third son Harold died in 1933.
The body is at Edward R. Good Funeral Home where funeral services will be conducted in the chapel Thursday at 2 p.m. by Rev. A. J. Barker of All Saints Anglican Church, Waterloo. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.
