- HIPEL, Kenneth A. - Peacefully at home, after a courageous battle with leukemia, on Sunday, November 18, 2007 at the age of 84.
Beloved husband for 60 years to Gloria (Garner).
Cherished dad of Lynda (Ron) Frey.
Loving grandpa of Laurie (Duane) Hollohan, Kristy Schedewitz (Shaun McGuire) and step-grandpa of Sherry (Bob) Radojcin, Dylan Frey and Mike Schedewitz.
Great-papa of Shauna, Alex, Keanna, Kayden, Bryce and step-great-papa of Jelena and Lucas.
Sadly missed by his brother, Roy (Joan) Hipel; sister, Stella Hipel; sister-in-law, Helen Hipel and brother-in-law, Jim (Hazel) Garner.
Predeceased by his parents, Aaron and Sarah Hipel; brother, Earl; sisters, Margaret and Pearl; brothers-in-law, Elroy and Simon; nephews, Mike and Jeff Garner and Joe Hipel.
Ken was a corporal for the Lincoln and Welland Division of the Army in the Second World War, being wounded twice before his honourable discharge in 1945.
Relatives and friends will be received at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home (519-745-9495), 621 King St. W., Kitchener on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., with a Legion service at 7 p.m.
The funeral service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at 1 p.m. with Father Ronald Voisin officiating.
A private family interment will take place at St. Boniface RC Cemetery, Maryhill. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Down Syndrome Society or the Canadian Cancer Society.
