- A GOOD CITIZEN LAID TO REST
FUNERAL OF LATE HENRY J. SCHNEIDER
This community was on Wednesday Sept. 15th, pained to learn of the death of that respected citizen, Mr. Henry J. Schneider, after a brief illness. He was only 49 years and 9 days old when called from this life.
His early death was all the sadder under the circumstances that his wife has for ten years been an invalid and dependent upon his care and personal assistance.
Mr. Schneider was born in Maryboro Township on 6th Sept., 1871. As a young man he assisted his father in operating a sawmill in Maryboro. About 17 years ago he removed to Elmira and entered the employ of Messrs. Heimbecher & Jung. Two years later he entered the services of the Elmira Interior Hardwood Co. He had since been employed by the Phonola Co. of Canada and was engaged in fitting the motors in Phonolas.
Mr. Schneider was a good type of citizen: industrious, honorable and home-loving. He leaves to mourn his death a beloved wife, his aged mother, who resides in Elmira; two brothers, Casper of Stratford and John of Toronto; and one sister, Mrs. Dannecker of Stratford.
On Friday afternoon his remains were laid to rest in St. James' Church Cemetery, after services at his late home on Queen street and at St. James' Church. Rev. John Strempfer officiated. The pallbearers were Messrs.: Fred Kirschel, Michael Fries, David Hollinger, Jacob Conrad, John Oppertshauser and William Dreisinger.
Many relatives and friends attended the funeral, including brothers, and uncles and aunts and cousins on both sides of the house. There were numerous wreaths and other floral offerings sent as tributes of respect to the deceased. In his passing Elmira has lost a good citizen. To his ill and incapacitated widow will go the sincere sympathy of the community.
