Notes |
- William Smith.
This gentleman is a Highland Scotchman, being a native of Aberdeenshire, Scotland, where he was born in 1843 He came to this country in 1868, and prior to coming here he worked at his trade, blacksmithing, in Salem and Elora. About twenty-one years ago he purchased the stone blacksmith shop from the late George Stork, and at about the same time was united in marriage to Elizabeth, daughter of James Simpson. They have had three children, one of whom is deceased. Mabel and Stewart are living at home, the latter attending school. Mr. Smith has the distinction of owning and living in the finest residence in the village, a feature not usually the good fortune of a village blacksmith. He is undoubtedly worthy of this luxury, however, as a more industrious or hard working citizen will be hard to find. He is a practical mechanic, both as a horseshoer and in ironwork usually required in a country blacksmith shop. He and his family are members of the Presbyterian church, and his political leanings are with the Reformers.
