  CLIFFORD, ERNEST JAMES was a graduate of the University of Toronto, 1914. who practised in Ayr for a number of years. By 1928 he was in Toronto, where he lectured in bacteriology at the University of Toronto. He also practised in that city specializing in internal medicine. Unfortunately the only information found regarding his stay in Ayr has been anecdotal, which, while invariably laudatory, provides no biographical details. He died on December 23, 1982, aged 90 years. Following the publication of his obituary, a letter appeared in the Canadian Medical Association Journal on November 1, 1982 which said:"He believed that it was a great privilege for doctors to come to know their patients and to be recipients of their trust." The writer goes on to says "I . . . thought what a wonderful doctor he must have seemed to his patients to be able to show so sincerely his interest in them as individuals." Dr. Alexander D.
