    • COATES, FREDERICK PRESTON was a graduate of the University of Toronto medical faculty, class of 1901. His stay in New Hamburg is outlined briefly by the Volksblatt in two items:

      April 27 1904 - Dr. Coates, who has bought the medical practice of Dr. Withrow, arrived last week. Dr. Coates comes with the highest recommendations as a practising physician, and we welcome him to our town.

      April 4, 1906 - Dr. F. P. Coates has sold his practice here to Dr. R. J. Darragh, of Toronto, who has already taken possession. Dr. Coates intends to practise his profession in Toronto.

      The final entry is found in the Canadian Medical

      Association Journal, volume 14, 1924:

      Dr. Frederick Coates, well known in the Kew Beach district, Toronto, died on March 9th. Dr. Coates was an active member of the East Toronto Medical Association and was the first president of the Association.

      PROMINENT BEACH DOCTOR F. P. COATES DIED SUNDAY

      Following a six weeks' illness Dr. Frederick P. Coates, well known East Toronto physician, died at his home, 1989 Queen street east, yesterday in his 50th year.

      The late Dr. Coates was born in Brampton and graduated in the faculty of medicine from Toronto University in 1902, later taking up practise in New Hamburg. After three years he returned to Toronto and opened an office in the Kew Beach district where he became well known.

      He was first president of the East Toronto Medical Association and for many years treasurer of Kew Beach Presbyterian church from where the funeral will be held to-morrow.

      The doctor is survived by his wife.
