- CROSS, WILLIAM DAVID STANLEY was born on August 12, 1892 at Stewarttown. He began his medical education at Queen's University in 1913, and after two years volunteered for active service and served in the army in Egypt and France,
He completed his medical course and received his degree from the University of Toronto in 1920.
He practised in Elmwood and then moved to Elmira, being listed there in directories from 1922 to 1928. In 1929 he was appointed to the staff of Homewood Sanatariurn. He went into psychiatry, eventually receiving his certification in that specialty.
In 1941 he was appointed to the D. V. A. hospital at Ste. Anne de Bellvue, becoming Medical Superintendent there and Chief Medical Officer for the Montreal district.
He was moved to Westminster Hospital, London in 1946, where he was Assistant Superintendent until the time of his retirement in 1956.
He was interested in art, particularly in oil painting and received several awards for his work.
He died in London on June 6, 1972, and was survived by his widow and a daughter.
