Notes |
- HEAD, JAMES GILMOUR was from Glenmorris, a graduate of the University of Toronto in 1879. After postgraduate work he began to practice in Glenmorris on November 1, 1883, but on the 13th. of November the Dumfries Reformer said.
The card of this gentleman appears in another column. The Doctor expects to become a permanent resident of Galt this week and will enter upon the practice of his profession. Dr. Head has just returned from Great Britain where he spent four years in the hospitals of London, Sdinourgh, Glasgow and Dublin.
His card read L. R. C. P. Edinburgh, L. E. F. S. Glasgow.
Two days later was a notice that he had purchased Dr. Richardson's residence on S. Water Street for $1, 680.
On September 27, 1858 he formed a partnership with Dr. Wardlaw, the notice saying that his health had greatly improved. The partnership was dissolved a year later. On Dec. 12, 1889 he inserted a Special Notice:
As I am about leaving Galt, parties indebted to me are requested to settle their accounts at once.
Further word was provided by the Reformer on January 2, 1890:
Dr. Head and family purpose leaving for Colorado early next week. It is the wish of the Doctor's, many friends that the change in climate may have the effect upon his health which it is desired.
The hoped for improvement did not take place - he died in Denver, Colorado on April 14, 1891, leaving his wife and family.

DIED FAR FROM HOME.
On Monday Mr. B. Bell received a telegram from his daughter, Mrs Head, announcing the death of her husband, Dr. J. G. Head, at Denver, Colorado, that morning. A little over a year ago the deceased and his wife removed to that city for the improvement of their health. During the past winter the doctors health has been failing rapidly. Mrs. Head's has been anything but satisfactory, still both were expected to return home as soon as the weather would permit. Instead the husband was interred at Denver on Wednesday. Mr. George W. Bell left on Tuesday to accompany Mrs. Head as soon as she was able to her father's home. Dr. Head was a son of Mr. Wm. Head late of Glenmorris, now of Montreal. He was a graduate in medicine of the University of Toronto, as well as of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. He practiced his profession for a short time in Scotland, then returned to Canada, living in Galt for a few years before going west.
