- IRVINE, THOMAS was listed in the census of 1871, the year he located here, as aged 25, born in Ontario, single.
His card, which appeared in the Berliner Journal from January 5 to August 17. said that his office was next Lake's Hardware, his residence the American Hotel.
He received a diploma from the Eclectic Medical College of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, in 1869. He was registered by the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons in October of that year. His annual fees for that body were last paid in 1890, by which time he had moved to Rochester, New York, then to Emporia, Kansas, and by 1922, to San Jose, Costa Rica.
His short stay here was preceeded by a period spent in London, Ont.

Death of Dr. Irvine
Dr. Thomas Irvine, who has been living at the point of death for some time, passed from life last evening at about 11 o'clock.
His death was caused from general nervous exhaustion and prostration induced by leucocythaemia.
The funeral will be held from the residence, 919 Constitution street, to-morrow at 3 p.m., where services will be conducted by Rev. F. J. Sauerber.
Dr. Irvine was a native of Ontario, Canada, and was in his fifty-third year. He was a graduate of the Eclectic medical school of Toronto and also of the Eclectic medical college of Pennsylvania. He was a practicing physician for five years in Ontario and for fifteen years in the United States. He was an elder in the Presbyterian church, a persistent temperance reformer, a good citizen and a good man. He leaves a wife and son to mourn the loss of a loving husband and father.

Dr. Thomas Irvine Passed Away Last Night - The Funeral.
After an illness of seven weeks, Dr. Irvine died last night at his home, 921 Constitution street, at 11 o'clock. The funeral will take place tomorrow at 3 p.m. at the residence. Rev. F. J. Sauerber will conduct the services. The burial will be at Maplewood. Dr. Irvine was 52 years old. Married Miss Rose A. Lynn, at Fingale, Province of Ontario, 21 years ago. They have one son, Samuel, who graduated with the Emporia High School class of '93. The doctor graduated from a medical college at Philadelphia, Pa. He has also a diploma from the eclectic medical board of Canada. Mr. and Mrs. Irvine have lived in the United States about fifteen years. Two years since they came to Emporia. He was associated with Dr. Eidson at the Emporia Medical Institute during the past year. He was a member of the Presbyterian church. One particular idea of his was that he was opposed to secret societies in any particular.
