    • MCLAREN, DAVID CUMMINGS was a son of Mr. & Mrs. William McLaren, and came to Canada with his parents when he was a child.

      He attended Galt High School and at the age of 21 years graduated in medicine in the class of 1880 from McGill University. He then spent a year at Hahnemann Medical College, Philadelphia in the study of Homeopathy.

      In August 1884 he came to Galt to take over Dr. Emory's practice. He was welcomed by both newspapers, the Reporter saying.

      ". . . his pleasing address, frank and winning manners will at once make him a favorite and trusted practitioner."

      On April 15, 1886 the Reformer said.

      "We understand that Dr. McLaren will leave for Brantford at an early date. With that object in view the Doctor has resigned his position as a member of the school board."

      By December 2nd. he had discontinued his weekly visits to Galt.

      He spent a couple of years at Brantford before moving to Ottawa. On December 30, 1935 be died there at 75 years of age. He was survived by his wife (his second), and two sons, one of whom was Dr. Kenneth McLaren, of Toronto.

      Dr. D. C. McLaren Dies at His Home
      Was Well Known Homeopathic Physician of 45 Years' Standing.

      Dr. David Cummings McLaren well known Homeopathic physician, and a resident of the Capital for the past 45 years, died this morning at his residence, 141 Laurier avenue west. Death occurred at 3.30 o'clock, and followed a three-weeks' illness. He will be mourned by a wide circle of friends in this district who held him in the highest esteem.

      Born at Sherlbourne Falls. Mass., he was in his 76th year, and was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William McLaren, who came to live in Canada when he was only four years of age. The family first established residence at Montreal, and later moved to Guelph. Educated at the Galt High School, he studied medicine at McGill University, and graduated as a physician and surgeon at the age of 21. Following his graduation he made special studies in homeopathy at Philadelphia, and for four years he practised as homeopathic physician at Galt and Brantford, later establishing residence in the Capital where he had been engaged as a practitioner for the past 45 years.

      An active church worker, Dr. McLaren was first associated with the First Congregational Church here, and later with Dominion Methodist Church. In recent years he had been an active member of the Metropolitan Tabernacle.

      Dr. McLaren was twice married. His first wife, Mary Howell, who was a talented singer and whom he met while on his post-graduate course in Philadelphia, died some six years ago, and his second marriage was to Annie Christina Farrara, who survives.

      He is also survived by two sons, Dr. Kenneth McLaren, of Toronto, and W. L. McLaren, Ottawa; two sisters, Mrs. J. N. Babson, Seattle, Wash, and Dr. Laura McLaren, of Guelph.

      The funeral will be held at two o'clock Thursday afternoon from his late residence, 141 Laurier avenue west. Interment will be at Beechwood cemetery.
