- Miss Lena Lewis
Following almost nine months of confinement, Miss Lena Lewis died at the Freeport Sanatorium early Saturday morning. The late Miss Lewis was in her 31st year. She was born in Moorefield, but since childhood lived in Elmira until about five years ago when she left for Toronto. Until a short time ago there was every indication that the young woman would recover from her lingering illness, when she suddenly took a turn for the worse.
The late Miss Lewis was well-known and loved by countless friends in Elmira and vicinity. She was a member of the United church and always took an active part in the Young People's Society and was a member of the choir. Surviving are her mother, Mrs. A. E. Lewis, two sisters, Roberta of Elmira and Mrs. Calvin Rachar of Fergus and three brothers, Edward, Clarence and George, all of Elmira.
The funeral was held from Dreisinger's Funeral chapel on Monday afternoon. Rev. J. Ure Stewart conducted the service, taking as his text from the Book of Jeremiah, "The setting of the sun at mid-way." Interment was made in the Elmira cemetery.
Messrs. Donald Cale, Walter Pirie, Noah Brubacher, Harry Weichel, Herbert Bonwell and Edgar Rahn were the pall-bearers.
