Notes |
- RAMSAY, SAMUEL F. came originally from Toronto, and following graduation from the University of Toronto, in 1863, began to practice in Brampton. The Canadian Champion, Milton, carried his card and further comment, on June 2, 1864,
S. F. Ramsay M. D. Graduate of University of Toronto. Coroner for United Counties of York and Peel. Residence Exchange Hotel main Street Brampton.
We beg to draw attention to the card of Dr. Ramsay of Brampton to be found in another column. The Doctor is highly spoken of, both as a man and as a skillful and successful practitioner.
In 1868 his card was in the March 11th. edition of the Dumfries Reformer.
Dr. S. F. Ramsay, Physician, Surgeon, &c., Graduate and Gold Medallist of Toronto University. Residence - at Mr. J. G. Fraser's near Mr. Peck's Malt House, Galt.
He had married a daughter of Mr. James G. Fraser, and they had one daughter. On August 13, 1871 he died in Toronto of consumption. lt is not clear how long he actually practised in Galt.
The Dumfries Reformer of August 23 carried the obituary from the Toronto Leader. of August 16th. After saying that his father was Mr. William Ramsay, of berkley street, it said:
The deceased gentleman was one of the most talented students that ever graduated at the Toronto University. During his studies there he carried off no less than three scholarships from a large number of meritorious fellow-students who had fought hard for the honors, and the profits, and in 1863 he won the highest honor in the University - the told medal. This young gentleman was an honor to the University, and to the Toronto School of Medicine, but unhappily he was not destined long to wear the rich rewards he won by his great talents and close attention to study, inasmuch as an all-kind Providence, that aoeth all things well, has called him away in the prime of his manhood, when he might be supposed to be about to enter upon a brilliant career, causing his numerous friends sadly to mourn the loss of one they had learned to love for his great kindness of heart, and esteem for his talents as a brilliant member of the medical profession.
