Car Sideswiped As Truck Swerves
By Record Staff Writer
GUELPH-Allen Hutchinson of Preston, a former Mount Forest mayor, and his wife, were killed when their car collided with a dump truck driven by Eugene Gibson, 36, of Guelph.
It was understood that the Hutchinson car was turning from Highway 24 onto Silvercreek Parkway.
The truck swerved to avoid a collision, sideswiped the Hutchinson car, partly spilling its load of hot asphalt, and overturned. The Hutchinson car ran into a hydro pole.
Mrs. Hutchinson was dead on arrival at hospital. She had a broken neck and severe head cuts. Her husband died a short time later from head injuries, a broken arm and broken ribs.
The truck driver was treated for a cut leg at Guelph Hospital and released.
