Notes |
- On the west side of the road, between Zuber's corners and the railway, is the farm that was the home of the Lawrence family.
George Lawrence was born at Byfield, Northamptonshire, England, on August 8th, 1817. When he was eleven years of age he came to the township of Pilkington with King Reeves, who had gone back to England for a trip, and lived at his home because Mrs. Reeves was his aunt.
When he had taken up a farm for himself, George Lawrence married Harriet Singer and they had a family of twelve, of whom two died young: Phoebe married Nathaniel Tribe; Catharine married Frederick Lasby; Benjamin married Delilah Copeland; William married Jane Stewart; Mary married Sylvester Lasby; Merab married Charles Stockford; Angeline married Thomas Shaw; George married Laura Kerr, and he is for the second time Mayor of Palmerston; and Charles married Elizabeth Seaton.
George Lawrence died at Palmerston, at the home of his son, on May 22nd, 1892, and Mrs. Lawrence in August, 1899, at the age of seventy five.
