- ROBERTSON, WILLIAM NORRIS was born in Stratford in 1855. He attended public school in Monkton and then went to the Hamilton Business College, he spent five years as a book-keeper before going to Pickering College to prepare for his medical course. He attended Victoria University, graduating in medicine in 1884. He took a postgraduate course at Edinburgh, and then served as ships surgeon, sailing to India, on his return he practised for a time in Glasgow before coming back to Canada and settling in Stratford, in 1885.
He hiked to the Yukon in the 90's during the gold rush, and later wrote a book titled "Yukon Memories', ' dealing with this trip.
He was an expert cyclist, holding records for both speed and distance.
For a time he was medical officer on the Canadian Northern Railway.
In the Berliner Journal of June 7, 1900 his card appeared.
Dr. W. N. Robertson C. M. C. P. & S. O. Licentiate Royal College Physicians and Surgeons and Royal Maternity, Edinburgh. Specialty Gynaecology. Consultations in German. Sundays always in the office except during church time. Medicine in the office.
The paper said his office was above Neville's Pharmacy.
It is not known how long he stayed here, but as he was a bit of a rolling stone, it was probably not for long. He was in Toronto before the first war, and served in the home forces at that time.
He died in Toronto on February 19, 1934 In his 80th year, being survived by his widow and a son

ROBERTSON-On Monday. February 19 at St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto Willians Norrie Robertson MD. C.M., late of 124 Hiawatha road. beloved husband of Jane Annie Robertson and father of W. N Robertson, in his 80th year.
The late Dr. Robertson is resting at the Trull Funeral Home. 1111 Danforth avenue for service Tuesday at 8 p.m. Interment at Avondale Cemetery, Stratford, Ontario at 3 pm Wednesday.

Famed Cyclist Is Dead At Toronto
TORONTO, Feb. 20.-Dr William Harris Robertson, 79, who used to make records on a high-wheeled bicycle and once wrote a book about the Yukon, died here yesterday, his birthday.
Dr. Robertson, born near Strat- ford, was educated at Pickering College and the old Toronto Medical School. From there he went to Edinburgh University. When he left Edinburgh he took a berth aboard a ship plying between Liverpool and Bombay.
In the late '80's he returned to Stratford and established a practice. In the '90's he hiked to the Yukon and participated in the gold rush. As a cyclist he once held the 100-mile record of 5 hours, 50 minutes and the 24-hour record of 253 1-2 miles. The feat won him election as a life member of the Canadian Wheelmen's Association.
