  • Notes
    • SHAW, ROBERT WILLIAM, was born in 1870. He was a graduate of the medical faculty of Trinity University, Toronto in 1895.

First mention of him is found in the Berliner Journal Sept. 2, 1908, in the Hespeler News:

A third Doctor (named) Shaw has established himself here and has taken over Dr. Ochs. residence.

The Weekly Reformer of September 17 enlarged on this.

Dr. and Mrs. Shaw and child, of Manitowaning are guests at the Queen's. The doctor will start practicing medicine in town, having rented the residence of Mrs. Arntfield.

The next item was in the Weekly Reformer on July 1, 1909:

Dr. and Mrs. Shaw's many friends in town are indeed sorry to part with them, and the farewell of today was much to be regretted. In the short time they were residents of Hespeler they have made hosts of friends who wish them every success in Manitoulin.

The doctor has accepted a good Government position as physician to the Indians and no one will blame him for the decision arrived at.

He practised on the Manitoulin Island for some time, being listed there in the 1928 Register. By 1937 He is listed in Aylmer, where he died on August 23, 1941, survived by his wife and a son.
