- SHAW, WILLIAM C. First announced his presence in the Dumfries Reformer of January 23, 1856 when he said that he was opening his office at Sheffield, coming there from Dundas and Freelton. He stated that he was a licentiate of the Rotunda, Dublin.
By March 11, 1856, he was in Galt according to his card in the Reformer:
DR. W. C. SHAW M. R. C. S. I.
Coroner for the County of Wentworth. Office above OSBORNE and SPIERS store, Main St. Galt.
Dr. S. was Clinical Assistant to Dr. Stokes, one of the most eminent British Physicians for
DISEASES OF THE LUNGS AND CHEST
Special attention has also been given by him to DISEASES OF CHILDREN
and
Diseases of the EYE and EAR
in the largest Metropolitan Hospitals in Britain, besides twelve years practice in the other branches of his profession, and subsequent experience in the diseases of this country, acquired in the General Hospital, Toronto, and extensive country practice since his arrival in Canada.

The next mention was in the Berlin Chronicle on March 30, 1858 in a letter to the editor. He had entertained the people of Millbank and vicinity with a lecture on Public Health. He had by this time moved to Allansville, but was listed in Glen Allan in the 1857-8 directory.
