Notes |
- STAEBLER, DAVID MERNER Received his medical introduction to this area as a student working with Dr. H. G. Lackner. He was presumably a local native - the Dumfries Reformer on August 11, 1881 said he was among those who matriculated in medicine. What this means is uncertain, but in May 1885 the Berliner Journal said he had passed his examinations in Toronto. The same paper made another report on July 9, that year Dr. David M. Staebler having completed the four year course at the University, as well as the College of Physicians and Surgeons, has opened an office on Weber Street. The latter is comparatively new in this area, and wishes to become known to the surrounding public, to enter into an association with him to give him an opportunity to show his suitability for professional employment. He does not claim to have any special secret remedy, or any particular form of treatment, but to be a qualified physician and surgeon.
A notice in the Dumfries Reformer on December 10, 1885 may have indicated that he was about to take postgraduate training:
Dr. D. M. Staebler, Berlin, has sold out his practice to Dr. Minchin of Stratford, who will occupy the new office in the Germania Block, which Dr. Staebler was having fitted up for himself. Dr. Minchin brings with him the best references. His return was announced by the Berliner Journal on July 26, 1888
We draw the attention of our readers to the card of Dr. Staebler, who has been for a considerable time in the hospitals, clinics and other teaching establishments, and who has returned to Berlin to resume the practice of medicine.
His card read: D. D. M. Stabler German Physician Office Bauman's Block, King Street, Berlin.
He is listed in Port Elgin in 1890, in Crediton in 1892-3.
In 1893 He moved to Brooklyn, N. Y., and later to Hackensack, NJ. where he died on Sept. 11, 1943 at 86 years of age.

______________
Hinsdale, Sept. 13 - Dr David M. Staebler, 87, died Saturday, night at his home in Hackensack, N. J., following nearly a year's illness from heart trouble. Over 30 years ago Dr and Mrs Staebler bought a summer home on the North road, and only missed coming here this past summer on account of the doctor's failing health. In September, 1941, the Stueblers sold the large stone house to Benjamin and Daniel England, sons of Mr and Mrs Daniel England of Pittsfield, and used a smaller bungalow that was on the estate, for the summer of 1942.
Dr Staebler was born in Canada and received his training at Toronto. He was practicing at Brooklyn, N. Y., when he married Miss Mary Hoople, who survives him. He leaves one son, Carl Stabler of Brooklyn. N. Y. and two grandchildren, Richard Staebler, who is in the armed service and Alan Alan Staebler of Brooklyn. The funeral will be held tomorrow night at the home at Hackensack. Burial in Sleepy Hollow cemetery at Tarrytown, N. Y..
