Virginia Belfer Eleven-year-old Virginia Belfer of Galt, Ont., hailed as Canada's outstanding child pianist, will be the guest soloist with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra at the concert Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Capitol Theatre. The concert will be junior symphony type, and is sponsored by the Women's Association of the Windsor Symphony Society. Matti Holli will conduct.

Miss Belfer is one of Canada's greatest prodigies and an acclaimed artist in the concert field. She commenced study of the piano shortly before her fifth birthday, and by the age of six she had already won several tropies, awards and scholarships in various music festivals. Virginia has played publicly for many organizations and has won recognition by leading musicians in both Canada and the United States. Her television debut was made at the age of eight and she has since made several television appearances as guest artist. At nine years of age Virginia was guest artist with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra at Massey Hall, with Walter Susskind conducting and since then she played with several Canadian Symphony Orchestras and has given complete recitals in Toronto, Ottawa and other Canadian cities.

Although this child loves and plays the works of the great composers, she also enjoys improvising and composing her own melodies. Improvisation in the style of various composers is done by Virginia who asks the audience to submit five notes, and from these notes she makes up pieces in the style of Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, Strauss and others. This remarkable fete is done by very few artists and is a great delight to audiences. Her first piece of music to be published is Christmas Angels, published by the Harris Music Co. in Oakville.

Virginia wrote both the music and the words. Virginia is a pupil of the celebrated Canadian teacher, Mona Bates of Toronto, and studies composition with Court Stones of Toronto.
