- PIONEER FARM OWNER IS DEAD IN PREEMPTION
Henry Allemang Passes at Home at Age 85 Following Illness of Several Weeks.
(Special to The Argus.) Preemption, Ill., Sept. 1. - Henry Allemang, 85 years old, prominent farmer, died at 7 o'clock evening at his home, two and a half miles southeast of Preemption.
He had been ill six weeks. He was born March 2, 1846, in Hesperer [sic], Canada, the son of Catherine and Henry Allemang. When 10 years old he accompanied his parents, a brother Michael and a sister, Mrs. Mary Simmon, to Rural township, later moving to the farm where he spent most of his life. He married Miss Mary Schoening of Rural at Aledo June 20, 1870.
Mr. and Mrs. Allemang observed their 60th wedding anniversary two years ago.
Taking up their residence on an 8-acre farm, the couple enlarged the holding to 720 acres by purchases. Mr. Allemang found interest in hunting and trapping.
He was a member former Zion Evangelical church, was a director of the Scott Center school several years and was prominent in community affairs.
Surviving are the widow; three sons, Fred of Stillwater, Neb., LouMapleton, Iowa, and Philip home; six daughters, Mrs. Katie Wyler of Viola, Mrs. Rebecca Bramer of Taylor Ridge, Mrs. Lillie Zwicker of Sherrard, Mrs. Emma Spangler of Sherrard, Mrs. Florence Groves of Sherrard and Clara of East Moline, and 14 grandchildren. A daughter Gertrude died at the age of 3 years..
