Notes |
- COOPER, JACOB BROWN
On Sunday night, February 22, 1920, at 10 o'clock, at the home of Mrs. Charlotte Gilchrist of Cooper St. in Hespeler, there passed to his eternal reward one of the best known and most respected men in this community, following an illness of three years. He was in his 63rd year, born in Wellesley Township, removing to Waterloo Township with his parents and later, returning to Wellesley, where he married Miss Adams and conducted a farm for a number of years. After the death of his wife, he removed to Puslinch Township, where he bought the Malcolm Gilchrist homestead, afterwards marrying Miss Charlotte Gilchrist. He conducted this farm for many years with excellent success, retiring to town a little over a year past on account of failing health. He always took a great interest in all that pertained to the welfare of the community and in agriculture and was, at the time of his death, president of the Aberfoyle Fair. He was well known throughout the district and was highly respected by all. Two sons by his first wife survive, Thomas of Toronto and Alexander of Wellesley. Besides his second wife, three brothers, John and William of Hespeler; Joseph of SK; and two sisters, Mrs. Dunbar of Galt; and Mrs. Birch of Palermo, also survive. The funeral was held on Wednesday at 2 to Hespeler Cemetery. The service was conducted by Rev. Small of the Presbyterian Church, of which Mr. Cooperas a devoted member. A number from Killean attended.
