- Death of an Old Citizen.
Daniel Burkholder, who has been an invalid for some years past, suffering from a stroke of paralysis. but bearing his sore affliction with unfailing cheerfulness, without a word of repining or of impatience, who passed away after another attack of the disease from which he has been afflicted, last Wednesday, was a native of Canada, born April 10, 1837, in which country he made his home until 1870 when he came to Missouri, purchasing land in Enterprise township which he improved and farmed until two years since, when he removed to Brookfield.
His wife, the faithful companion of many years, five sons and three daughters are the surviving members of his immediate family.
The funeral will occur today, Saturday, at 1 o'clock p.m., the services conducted by Rev. Ben. F. Hill.

Death of Pioneer.
News passed over Brookfield today that the highly esteemed veteran and Linn county pioneer, Daniel Burkholder, was dead The old gentleman passed on at 10:30 this morning, surrounded by the family at the residence at 1124 North Main street.
The deceased had been bedfast for two weeks, but had been in poor health for several years.
The funeral will be held from the home at 1 o'clock Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. B. F. Hill, the neighbor, while the interment will be at Rose Hill conducted by M. Y. Rusk.
The deceased was born in Hamburg, Canada, April 10, 1837, and was therefore in his 78th year. Coming to Linn county with the family in 1870, Grantsville township was the home until two years ago, when enfeebled in health it was decided to leave the farm and come to Brookfield.
Besides the widow, eight children survive, being five sons and three daughters, as follows: Rudolph, William J., Daniel Jr., John H., Jay, Mrs. F. O. Kelley, Mrs. William Miller, Mrs. Jessie Guyer, the latter of Texas, but who came a short time ago to the bedside of the father. A man of strong character, of common honesty, was Daniel Burkholder. He was a member of the Presbyterian church, and prided himself on being a Democrat. Of a sociable turn, "Dan" Burkholder made friends. He was a good neighbor, a good friend, and was withal a devoted husband and father. His memory will live in the minds and hearts of those who knew and loved.
