  Charles Wilken passed away at his home in Brant on Monday evening as a result of an accident which occurred two hours previous. He was 74 years old. His son John was having an addition built to his barn and had gone to Elmwood on Monday evening for a load of lumber. Returning shortly before six o'clock, he was about to cross the track near his residence when looking up suddenly he percieved the jigger bearing down upon him. The team were startled and he jumped off the wagon a distance of about 4 to 5 feet, to hold their heads; but, falling he struck his head severely against a boulder. He was carried into his house and an Elmwood doctor summoned, but he died, as stated above, a couple of hours afterwards. Deceased was an honest, hard working man and enjoyed the good will of all who knew him. He was born in Mecklenburg, Germany emigrating to Canada with his wife a great many years ago. He had lived on the present property in the neighbourhood fo 30 years. He leaves to mourn his loss, a widow, two sons and two daughters. The sons are August, who is now living in Manitoba and John. The daughters are Mrs Menno Rody of Brant and Mrs Fred Sachs of Hanover. The funeral will take place tomorrow morning to the Brant Lutheran Cemetery. Rev. Mr Goos will conduct the obsequies.
