- AROUND THE TOWN
By EARL WERSTINE
WHERE ANCHOR CAME FROM - Before 6 o'clock Tuesday evening we had the answer as to where that old anchor in Soper park came from, Tommy Gallimore called us up to state that his brother-in- law, Harry Wall, Chalmers street, on his return from overseas after the First Great War was working on the creek diversion in the park for Dr. Soper when the island in the north end was being built. Mr. Wall recalled that the late Harry Lunenfeld had discovered an anchor in a shipment of junk he had received and he presented it to Dr. Soper who chose the new island as a location for it. The anchor was from a Great Lakes vessel. Later we had two more phone calls from women readers confirming that Mr. Lunenfeld was the donor of the anchor.
