- Ann Paleczny identified as victim of fatal Kitchener house fire
Paleczny was pulled out of her home on Monday but pronounced dead at hospital
Police have identified the woman who died in a house fire Monday morning as Ann Paleczny.
A post-mortem confirmed the 67-year-old died from smoke inhalation.
An obituary for Paleczny said she worked for many years as a private secretary with a local school board. She also started the cleaning company The Beechwood Ladies.
"She loved and always had animals," the obituary reads, noting her pride and joy was an American Black purebred Chinese chow.
"Ann did much volunteer work and was known to be honest and loyal to others."
She leaves behind her partner, Ole J. Olsen, relatives and friends.
Investigators can't enter residence
Firefighters were called to the home at 111 Second Ave., in Kitchener's south end around 5:30 a.m. Monday.
Paleczny was found inside her home unconscious. She was taken to St. Mary's Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
"Due to the structural integrity of the residence, fire investigators have been unable to enter the residence and determine the cause of the fire," police said in a release Thursday.
Police confirmed there were no animals in the house at the time of the blaze.
Waterloo Regional Police are investigating along with the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office, Kitchener Fire Department and the coroner's office.
