Notes |
- MITCHELL, Tom After a long and wonderful life of over 89 years, on Sunday, June 16, 2013, Father's Day, the most loving, kind, gentle and gracious man, Tom Mitchell, surrounded by the love of his children, was called to be with God. Devoted husband of 60 years to Sandy (2007). Loved forever by his children David Mitchell and Heather Ferguson, Janet and Scott Uffelman, Karen and Brian Huber, Brian and Jill Mitchell, Marilyn and Brad Michael, his precious Nancy Mitchell and Trish and John Piggott. Blessed with 17 loving grandchildren whom he treasured and adored and who equally cherished him. Evan (Rachel), Patrick (Lana) and Lexie (Chris) Mitchell, Emily (Alex), Kate and James Uffelman, Andrew, Justin and Sarah Huber, Thomas, Amy, Jonathan and Jordan Mitchell, Laura and David Michael and Paige and Ryan Piggott. Tom was overjoyed to have welcomed his great-granddaughter, JJ Nosal, with whom he shared a special bond. For Tom, family was his greatest joy. He devoted his whole life to us. Together with Mom, he created wonderful memories, celebrations and experiences. Tom was the most amazing Dad and he always put the well being of others before himself. He was exemplary in showing his children kindness and love. He was a qualified airplane mechanic, volunteered to serve his country in World War II as a dispatch rider in Holland, and loved his work at Smiles 'n Chuckles and Colonial Cookies. In his retirement he was a talented wood carver and he happily spent endless hours sharing his time, talents and laughter with his children and grandchildren. This brought him immense happiness. Tom enhanced many lives including those of his sister and brothers, Dot, Bill and Jack, his nieces and nephews, friends and neighbours and whomever he met. A man of strong faith, he was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Kitchener. We know Dad would want to thank Dr. Scott Wright, Veterans' Affairs Canada, CCAC, his many PSWs, Murray Hamalainen and Dr. Carothers and the team that so graciously cared for him at The Westmount Long Term Care Centre. Tom's family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, June 20 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street in Kitchener. A private family service will follow on Friday, June 21, 2013 at 11 a.m. officiated by Reverend Janice Hamalainen. In lieu of flowers, donations to Parents for Community Living, or KidsAbility would be appreciated. Dad, your example of true love and patience will always be our inspiration. You taught us to always put others first. You have touched so many hearts on your journey. We will love you forever. Rest in peace, Dad... you were a true gentleman.
