- Christian Gatcke, 68, of 158 Church St., died yesterday at the K-W Hospital following a brief illness.
He was known to the furniture industry as sales, representative of five firms in Ontario and Quebec. He worked with the De Luxe Upholstering Co., Waterloo; Honderich Mfg. Co., Milverton; Peppler Bros., Hanover; Monaco Co., St. Jerome's, Que, and Henri Vallieres, Nicolet, Que, He was a member of the Ontario Commercial Travellers Association and the Commercial Travellers Association of Canada. He attended St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.
An ardent bowler, he was a member of the Beaver Lawn Bowling Club.
Born Aug. 7, 1880, in Mornington Township, he was a son of the late Fred Gatcke and Magdalena Bellar. His wife the former Sarah Jacobs survives.
Also surviving are three sons Howard, Bridgeport; Jack and William, both of Kitchener; one daughter, Mrs. Max (Hazel) Newman, Kitchener; three brothers, Dave, Palmerston; Joe and William, both of Milverton. One sister, Mrs. John Candler, predeceased him. Fifteen grandchildren survive.
A public funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Schreiter- Sandrock Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. H. A: Kellerman officiating. Interment will be at Woodland Cemetery. The body is resting at the funeral home.
