      2nd Driver, Youth, 17, Is Injured

      Mr. and Mrs. Frederick W. Carter both 49, of 50 Brubacher St., were instantly killed early today in a two-car collision at Frederick and Edna streets.

      Driver of the other car, Archibald Smith, 17, of Aurora, was hurt, but not seriously. He was taken to the K-W Hospital for observation and released after an X-ray had been taken of his back.

      TWO PASSENGERS HURT

      Two passengers in the Smith car were injured. Miss Margaret McLellan, 16, of 84 Belleview Ave., received face cuts, and Miss Carol McMurray, 17, of 194 Samuel St., received an eye injury.

      Another passenger, Ernest Rule, 19, of Richvale, Ont, was uninjured. Police said the four were returning from a drive-in theatre.

      The accident occurred at 1:18 a.m. The Carter car was going south on Frederick street and the other vehicle east on Edna street. Police said there were indications that Mr. Carter had tried to avoid a collision and had swerved away from the oncoming vehicle. The impact, forced the Carter car onto the southeast corner of the intersection.

      The car spun around and ended up facing almost northeast. The Smith vehicle ended up on the same side of the road, about 30 feet south.

      RETURNING FROM GUELPH

      Constables John J. Simon and Robert Amstein investigated the crash. Dr. Louis V. Lang, coroner, declared Mr. and Mrs. Carter dead before the arrival of the ambulance. The fatalities were Kitchener's first since October.

      Crown Attorney Daufman said an inquest will be held. The date has not been set. Mr. and Mrs. Carter were returning from Guelph where they had been visiting their daughter, Mrs. Malcolm (Vivian) Voelzing.

      Also surviving are Mr. Carter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Carter of Galt; two sons, David, 131 Byron St., and Stewart, 31. College St. There are five grandchildren, A sister of Mr. Carter's also survives. She is Mrs. A. C. Vitek of Galt.

      EMPLOYED BY PUC

      Mrs. Carter also leaves two brothers, Bruce Harry, both of Kitchener, two sisters, and Louis Patterson of Galt and Mrs. Oscar Koebel of Kitchener, Mr. Carter was employed by Kitchener Public Utilities Commission. He was born in Oshawa. Mrs. Carter was born in Drayton. Both were members of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church.

      Mr. and Mrs. Carter had lived in Kitchener for the past 30 years.

      Mr. Carter was a member of Grand River Lodge AF and AM, 151, Valette Preceptory, Kitchener Chapter Royal Arch Masons and the Mocha Temple.

      Mrs. Carter was the daughter of the late Mr. and Widdis Johnston.

      The bodies will be at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home until noon Tuesday when removal will be made to St. Andrew's Church for service at 2 p.m. Very Rev. Finlay G. Stewart will officiate Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.
